"Help! Chat is too fast!" and other chat issues

One of the things that people enjoy...or don't enjoy...the most about the Cornell RTH nesting season is the chat. It's a matter of personal preference, but even for those who do like to chat, there are some guidelines that make it a better experience overall. Many of these guidelines are listed in the document LottiesMimi put together called, "Chattiquette (Chat Etiquette)". You can find that document link on the right-hand side of this blog, or click here.

Official Cornell Bird Cams Chat Guidelines can be found here.

In addition, here are a few other excellent recommendations, compiled and paraphrased from sebourne. Thank you, LottiesMimi and sebourne!

  • At busy times, we can wait to say, " "Awww" and "How cute".
  • While it's nice to see familiar names pop up, we don't *have* to say hello and goodbye every time.
  • Some of the busiest times can be during mod changes. Everyone can see the list of who is logged in, so remember that the mods can see who is there. We can wait for the chat to slow down to make a personal greeting.
  • Be aware that newcomers may feel left out or like there is a group of "insiders" when there are a number of us who already know each other. Keep an eye out for questions going unanswered, lost in a flurry of names that are familiar.
